Welcome to Barewood Carvings!

There’s magic in wood, and Derek Letourneau knows how to release it. For most people, woodcarving is an art, but Letourneau lifts it to the level of fine art.

The Dalhousie man started with furniture, but an accident created limitations, and he started carving. Creativity, which he traces to his Acadian and Mi’gmaq ancestry and a deep love for nature, allows him to find the spirit that lives within every piece of fine wood. Working with native and imported exotic hardwoods, he creates sculptures that are admired by all who see them.

Living beside the spectacular scenery of the Baie des Chaleurs in northern New Brunswick, Canada, helps provide him with the inspiration that is evident in every individual piece.

Letourneau’s work continues to earn him numerous awards when he enters competitions:

You can find his fine art in private collections through out the continent and as far away as Africa.

But as always happens with excellence, the work speaks for itself. Come along with a virtual tour of some of Derek’s sculptures.
